Laparoscopic Surgeon in Ahmedabad

Laparoscopy, or key-hole surgery is a technique to examine the pelvic or abdominal area. It involves the use of a laparoscope instead of the traditional method of open surgery called Laparotomy. It is a safer, minimally invasive method involving smaller incisions, as compared to open surgery.  MEHTA Hospital offers the best and exclusive laparoscopic surgery in Ahmedabad.

THE PROCEDURE

Laparoscopy is when a small incision is made in the abdominal wall (near the belly button) and the laparoscope – a long thin tube with a high resolution camera and high intensity light – is inserted inside. Usually, carbon dioxide is filled inside the abdomen, which lifts it from other organs allowing the surgeon a proper view.

As the laparoscope moves along, your doctor gets the visual feed of your internal organs and can then diagnose and treat the condition. Over the past 35 years, it has developed into common surgical practice.

WHAT ABOUT LAPAROTOMIES?

A Laparotomy is when a much longer incision is made along the bikini line or in an up-and-down fashion, and is usually performed when the surgeon needs more area to operate. It is a primitive and nearly obsolete mode of surgery as all types of gynecologic conditions can be managed effectively by laparoscopy.

Many studies have shown that laparoscopy is safer, less expensive and has a shorter recovery time than laparotomy.

WHY DO I NEED A LAPAROSCOPY?

A gynecological laparoscopy is a form of diagnosis for conditions like endometriosis or fibroids. Alternatively, it is also a form of surgical treatment – for ovarian cyst removal, tubal ligation (a surgical contraception) and hysterectomies.

If you have been suffering from abdominal pain, infertility or have a history of pelvic infections, then your doctor might have suggested laparoscopic surgery to you. It can also be used to get a biopsy sample during the procedure.

A laparoscopy is usually needed when other methods of diagnosis such as an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI do not provide enough information for a diagnosis.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS?

With laparotomy come the risks of general anaesthesia and surgery, but complications are very, very rare. The risk due to death in this procedure is very very small (about 3 in 1 lakh cases). Moreover, surgeries at Eva Women’s hospital are performed by excellent surgeons. They also offer 3D laparoscopy surgery in Gujarat, so, you’re in good hands.

Some risks may be skin irritation and post-operative bladder infection, pelvic infections and adhesions, which are all treatable.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE

Laparoscopies are usually done outpatient. What this means it patients aren’t kept overnight, although you may be kept for observation for a few hours to a maximum of total stay of 24 hours..

While this isn’t a complicated or dangerous procedure at all, you may experience some pain right after surgery. Sometimes the next few periods are also more painful after this procedure. This is because internal healing takes longer than external healing.

You might feel cold as a result of the anaesthesia, and may also feel groggy the next few hours after surgery. So it’s best to have a friend around!
